Shillong, Sept 22: The Department of Pharmacology, Shillong Medical College, organised a Sensitisation and Hands-on Training Programme on Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Reporting as part of the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026.
The programme brought together doctors, nurses and pharmacists from Civil Hospital Shillong, Ganesh Das Govemment M&CH Hospital and NEIGRIHMS, along with SMC faculty. Dr Nicola C. Lyngdoh langrai, Director, SMC, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of medication safety and ADR reporting.
Scientific sessions were delivered by Dr Maxilline D. Marak on adverse drug reactions and Dr Reuben P. Syiem on Pharmacovigilance and practical ADR reporting. A key highlight was the hands-on case-based training, where participants identified suspected ADRs and medicines and practised completing ADR reporting forms.
The programme emphasised that ADR reporting is a shared responsibility of healthcare professionals and that improving reik»rting can strengthen medication safety, rational use of medicines and patient care. The initiative concluded with a simple message: Every suslRcted ADR report can contribute towards safer medicines, safer patients and safer healthcare.
