Shillong, May 05: Meghalaya State BJP President Mr. Ernest Mawrie has written to the Union Minister for Education requesting the Union Government to extension of last date for registering for the CUET 2022.
The BJP State President in the letter mention that the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is planning to implement the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) from the forthcoming academic session for all colleges affiliated to it. All the colleges in Meghalaya are affiliated to NEHU.
The implications of this decision is that all the students who pass class XII this year, in order to get admission in any college in Meghalaya should pass the CUET-UG. Many of the local students in the state are unaware of this new development. In fact, hardly anybody in the state is aware of this.
The situation that will arise is that no student in the whole state will be eligible for admission to BA, BCom, BSc and other undergraduate courses. Most of them would not have applied for appearance for the test since the last date is April 30, 2022.
Even if they manage to apply at the last moment, it would be difficult for them to give the examination since there is only one online exam centre in Shillong and none in any other town. The number of Class XII-passed students will be too high to be accommodated in the exam centre.
There will be a big crisis in June-July, which is the time when the admission process is normally carried on in the colleges. There is even danger of serious breakdown of law and order. The BJP State President request you to kindly extend the last date so as to enable as many students as possible to register for the same.
