Shillong, Sept 09: As part of mega post Eid celebrations, Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhaka organised a grand Musical Concert by the Shillong Chamber Choir was held recently at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium in Dhaka and Sylhet Auditorium in Sylhet. The Shillong Chamber Choir is arguably the top exponent from India of Choir Music and has obtained world renown.
During its performance at the grand Mirpur Indoor Stadium on September 6, 2013, in front of a capacity-filled 6000-odd audience comprising of dignitaries and music lovers of all age-groups, Shillong Chamber Choir mesmerized the audience with classical choir-style renditions (gospels), Bollywood numbers and Bangla compositions like “Lascia Chio Pianga…”, “Tu Asshiqui Hai..”, “Ngi Wan Kynduh..”, “Yeh Dosti..”, “Dil Hai Chota Sa..”, “Stand By Me..”, “Kal Ho Na Ho..”, “Medley of ‘Banshi Shune Ar Kaj Nai..& ‘Ekla Cholo Re’.., “Boney M Medley..”, “We Will Rock Yoy Medley..”, “Somebody To Love..”, “Senorita..”, “Price Tag Medley..”, “Kolaveri Di..”, “Train Journey Medley..” etc for about one hour and a half.
The performance of Shillong Chamber Choir at Dhaka was fascinating to say the least. The Choir was refreshing and versatile in its renditions considering the fact that they mixed choir style compositions with Bollywood numbers within a harmonious whole in their unique style of layering of music.
Prominent dignitaries of Bangladesh like Adviser to the Prime Minister for International Affairs, H.E. Dr. Gowher Rizvi, foreign diplomats like the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Nepalese High Commissioner to Bangladesh and top cultural artists of Bangladesh participated in the Grand Musical Concert by Shillong Chamber Choir in Dhaka.
High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Pankaj Saran, and children of officials of the High Commission of India in Bangladesh presented bouquet of flowers to the Shillong Chamber Choir at the end of the concert.
The Grand Musical Concert by Shillong Chamber Choir was the grandest concert organised in Bangladesh by any government institution in recent times in terms of the magnitude of participation of the audience and the quality of rendition of music. This historic event was extensively covered by almost all prominent print and electronic media of Bangladesh.
