NIFT Shillong today receiving nationwide acknowledgement

Shillong, Oct 01: Nestled in the serene and enchanting ‘Pasteur Hill’ in the heart of the ‘Scotland of the East’, the latest entrant to the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) family – NIFT Shillong today carved another niche in the annals of NIFT history.

Opened five years ago, the Shillong Centre though offering only three courses for the time being has been receiving nationwide acknowledgement by virtue of the talented students that it boasts of courtesy an excellent faculty coupled by ardent desire by all to excel and take the centre to greater heights.

That was what happened Monday when the perseverance and commitment of the third batch of the Shillong centre produced the first ever student magazine of NIFT which was released by Shillong Press Club President, David Laitphlang in a light and informal gathering at the institute’s hall in the presence of outgoing NIFT Shillong Director, WAM Booth and joint director Robert L Dkhar, faculty and students.

Exhorting the students to move forward and endeavour to achieve new things, Laitphlang said, “It is a proud moment for you and your efforts only go to show how special NIFT Shillong is in that from a remote corner of the country, great things can emanate.” Lauding the editorial team that put in the effort to produce the magazine which due to fund constraints could be taken out only in black and white, Laitphlang however urged the younger students to emulate their seniors and “ensure that the magazine becomes a regular phenomenon”.

Laitphlang also presented certificates to successful students who completed a two months certificate course on boutique management from NIFT Shillong. The Shillong Centre Director informed that now the course duration has been increased to one year following the success of the pilot project.

Meanwhile, Booth who finished her four years deputation stint with NIFT spend her last day encouraging the students to “always strive for perfection” even as she assured them that she would “always be there for them even in the coming days.” A Meghalaya Civil Service officer, she is returning back to state government service after what she terms was a “most unforgettable experience with NIFT”.
