ICFAI University observes dead anniversary of Lt. Yasaswy

Tura, Oct 09: The ICFAI University Meghalaya today observed the second dead anniversary of its founder Lt. N J Yasaswy here.  The university organized a memorial lecturer for the commemoration of Lt Yasaswy, who passed away in 2011. A two-minute silence was observed followed by a prayer.

Pro-Vice Chancellor, ICFAI Meghalaya University Dr. Milton Sangma highlighted the contribution of Lt Yasaswy and his vision for promotion of business and higher education in Northeastern region. Dr. Sangma noted that Lt Yasaswy had keen interest for the region and always wanted that the youths of the Northeast should be at par with all other states of the country.

Dr. Sangma remarked that Lt. Yasaswy’s vision was to give the best in education for Northeast. Dr. Sangma pointed out that Lt. Yasaswy was a simple man with a dream to propel his team for achieving higher standards.

Dr. Milton Sangma urged the students to imbibe his qualities and strive to achieve success in life.

The memorial lecture was delivered by HoD Management Department NEHU – Dr. J U Ahmed titled “Financial Inclusion for Women Entrepreneur”.

Dr. Ahmed underscored the importance of finance as the main reasons for inequalities of income. “Lack of finance has been a deterrent to potential innovations and latent first generation entrepreneurs”, said Dr. Ahmed.

Pitching for financial inclusion as an explicit strategy for accelerated economic growth, Dr. Ahmed suggested for promotion of rural financial inclusion like post offices, credit unions, etc.

According to Dr. Ahmed the post office is a key source of regular information and advice for many, as well as a place to access financial services and benefits, especially for those that still choose to access them in person.

Dr. Ahmed said, “Providing access to finance for women entrepreneurs is one avenue and it will facilitate enterprise development and contribute to integrating women into formal sector and the achievement of a thriving private sector”.

He also remarked that unless a financial inclusion programme is designed to specifically include women, it would often exclude them, or at least impact upon them differently to men.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Milton Sangma presented the student of the year award to Sumit Dey, a BCA student.

The commemoration ceremony was led by ICFAI Tura Campus Incharge Dewan Raufy and was coordinated by Development Officer Muktadul Hussain and his team.(SP News)
