Ampati, August 28: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Ampati, has issued a Second Public Notice inviting the remaining landowners and interested persons affected by the acquisition of land for the 2-Lane Tura Bypass Project to collect their compensation and hand over possession of the acquired land.
The Award and the call for payment of compensation and handover of possession were initially notified through The Shillong Times and Salantini Janera on June 11, 2026, giving the concerned landowners 60 days to approach the office for payment and complete the process of handing over possession. The prescribed 60-day period expired on August 9, 2026.
The administration has stated that compensation in respect of landowners who furnished their bank account details has already been credited to their respective accounts. Payments have also been made through electronic transfer to those who subsequently approached the Office of the Deputy Commissioner during the stipulated period.
Through the Second Public Notice, the remaining landowners and interested persons have now been given an additional 15 days from the date of publication to approach the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Ampati, and receive their compensation, which has already been tendered under the relevant Award.
The concerned landowners and interested persons have also been called upon to hand over possession of the acquired land immediately. The notice further cautions that failure to comply may result in possession being taken with police assistance in accordance with Section 3E(2) of the National Highways Act, 1956.
The administration has urged all remaining landowners and interested persons concerned to make use of the additional 15-day period and complete the necessary formalities at the earliest.
