Shillong, August 05: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, today published the Draft Electoral Roll, 2026 for all 60 Assembly Constituencies in the State under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026, in accordance with the programme announced by the Election Commission of India. The publication marks the commencement of the statutory period of filing Claims and Objections, which will be from 5th August, 2026 to 4th September, 2026.
The Draft Electoral Roll has been published at the offices of the District Election Officer (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and in all Polling Stations in the State.
The Copies of the Draft Electoral Roll have also been handed over to the authorized representatives of Recognized National and State Political Parties, with one hard copy containing photographs and one soft copy without photographs.
In addition, one hard copy without photographs has been shared with Traditional Heads, Dorbar Shnongs, Nokmas and other designated public institutions to facilitate public inspection.
The Special Intensive Revision, 2026 involved an extensive house-to-house verification exercise carried out by the election machinery across the State. The exercise achieved 100% distribution and digitization of Enumeration Forms, covering all 23,49,645 electors in Meghalaya.
Outcome of the Special Intensive Revision, The Special Intensive Revision has enabled comprehensive verification and digitization of the State’s electoral database. Out of the total 23,49,645 electors, 7,75,665 electors (33.01%) have been successfully mapped as Self, with their own electoral records linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2005 database.
There are 11,70,792 electors (49.83%) have been mapped as Progeny, with their records linked to the electoral records of their parents or grandparents available in the SIR, 2005 database.
There are 2,22,786 electors (9.48%) could not be linked with the SIR, 2005 records and have been categorised under the “No Mapping” category. These cases will undergo detailed verification during the Notice Phase/ disposal of Claims and objection.
During the enumeration phase, 1,80,402 electors (7.68% of the total electorate) were identified under the Absent, Shifted, Deceased and Duplicate (ASDD) categories. The category-wise details are, Deceased: 81,490 (3.47%), Untraceable/Absent: 45,011 (1.92%), Permanently Shifted: 42,532 (1.81%), Enumeration Form Refused/Others: 4,668 (0.20%) , Already Enrolled (Duplicate): 6,701 (0.29%).
Based on the verification completed during the house-to-house exercise, the Draft Electoral Roll, 2026 contains 21,69,243 electors, comprising, Male Electors, 10,53,039 , Female Electors: 11,16,199 and third Gender Electors 5.
The Election Commission of India has approved the rationalisation of polling stations in Meghalaya, resulting in the creation of 86 new polling stations. Consequently, the total number of polling stations in the State has increased from 3,551 to 3,637, which is expected to enhance voter convenience and improve accessibility to polling stations across Meghalaya.
Period of filing Claims and Objections , The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, reiterates that the Draft Electoral Roll is not the Final Electoral Roll. Every eligible elector has the opportunity to verify their particulars and file claims or objections during the statutory period from 5th August to 4th September, 2026.

Their respective Booth Level Officer (BLO) ,The office of the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) Important Advisory to ElectorsIf your name appears in the Draft Electoral Roll and is successfully mapped with the SIR 2005 records, no further action is required. If your name appears in the Draft Electoral Roll but is not mapped with the SIR 2005 records, you will receive a notice from the Electoral Registration Officer/Booth Level Officer. You are requested to appear for the hearing on the scheduled date, time and venue with the required supporting documents.
If your name does not appear in the Draft Electoral Roll, you may apply for inclusion by submitting Form 6 along with the prescribed Declaration Form during the period of filing Claims and Objections. The Office further clarifies that electors identified under the No Mapping categories are not automatically deleted from the electoral roll.
All such cases shall be processed strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India, after due verification, issuance of notice wherever required, and providing the concerned electors an opportunity to be heard.
During the period of filing Claims and Objections, the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) shall also invite advance applications in Form 6 for the subsequent qualifying date of 1st October, 2026.
To promote transparency, the lists of ASDD electors, as well as the lists of electors whose names are not included in the Draft Electoral Roll, have been hosted on the CEO Meghalaya website and respective District Election Office websites and displayed at the offices of the Block Development Officers, Municipal Boards, and Polling Stations, indicating the probable reasons for non-inclusion.
