Barpeta, Oct 29: Nearly four years after devastating floods destroyed the Kaimari Government Primary School in Assam’s Barpeta district, Group Legrand India, in partnership with One Stage Organization, has inaugurated and handed over a newly constructed school building, restoring access to safe and quality education for around 160 children in the village.
The school was severely damaged and eventually washed away during the 2022 floods, leaving students without an adequate learning environment and disrupting educational continuity in one of the country’s most flood-prone regions.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by government officials, community leaders, educators, students, and representatives of Group Legrand India and One Stage Organization, marking an important milestone for the village and its future generations.
Designed to provide a safe, engaging, and conducive learning environment, the newly rebuilt Kaimari Government Primary School features five classrooms, a staff room, a digital learning room, a kitchen and storage facility, separate sanitation facilities for girls, boys, and staff, classroom furniture, electricity connectivity, and a playground. The campus also incorporates the Building as Learning Aid (BALA) concept, transforming school infrastructure into interactive learning spaces that encourage curiosity and creativity among students.
More than a physical structure, the new school represents renewed access to learning, opportunity, and hope for children and families in Kaimari village. The project aims to provide a secure environment where students can continue their education, develop essential skills, and pursue their aspirations without disruption.
The initiative reflects Group Legrand India’s commitment to strengthening access to quality education, particularly in underserved communities where educational continuity is often challenged by natural disasters and infrastructure gaps. By rebuilding the school, the company has sought to ensure that children affected by the 2022 floods can once again learn and grow in a safe and inspiring environment.
The project also builds on Group Legrand India’s ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure in Assam and support long-term community development. The company’s earlier support in 2023 for the Kharbali Government Primary School demonstrated the positive impact that quality educational facilities can have on students, families, and local communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Abida Aneez, Vice President – Sustainability & CSR, Group Legrand India, said: “Education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives. When the Kaimari Government Primary School was lost during the 2022 floods, children in the village lost more than a building; they lost a space where dreams were nurtured and futures were shaped. Through this reconstruction, we hope to restore that opportunity for every child who walks through these classrooms. Our aspiration is that this school becomes a place where children learn, grow, discover their potential, and build a brighter future for themselves and their community.”
The successful completion of the project was made possible through the active support of local authorities, school management committees, teachers, parents, and community members who shared a common vision of ensuring every child has access to quality education.
As communities continue to recover from the impacts of climate-related disasters, Group Legrand India remains committed to creating meaningful and lasting social impact through initiatives that strengthen educational access and empower future generations. Through projects such as the Kaimari Government Primary School, the company continues to invest in the belief that every child deserves a safe place to learn, dream, and succeed.
