Shillong, July 16: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, NEIGRIHMS in association with the Shillong Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society (SOGS) successfully conducted the AOGIN-India Interim CME at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong on the 11th July 2026. AOGIN (Asia-Oceania research organisation on genital infections & Neoplasia) is a reputed organisation dealing specifically with Gynaecological Cancers.
The event was attended by around 120 participants including gynaecologists, postgraduate trainees, medical officers from the different districts of Meghalaya along with delegates from the other North Eastern states who benefited from the interactive sessions and hands on workshop.
The CME focused on the preventive aspects of gynaecological cancers with a special emphasis on recent updates in the field. Stalwarts in the field of gynaecological cancer discussed the various aspects of gynaecological cancers management. Workshop on various surgical and diagnostic methods received excellent participation.
Padma Shri awardee and keynote speaker Dr. Neerja Bhatla, an advocate for cervical cancer prevention and elimination, emphasized strategies for cervical cancer prevention and elimination. The CME also focussed on the management of HPV-associated gynaecological cancers, HPV vaccination strategies and recent developments in vaccines.
The Chief guest Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, Director NEIGRIHMS graced the inaugural program and applauded the efforts of the department in organising such an academic program to help bridge the critical gap between cancer screening and it’s effective early treatment.
