State BJP President discussed with Union Minister on export from Meghalaya

Shillong, May 18: The BJP Meghalaya State President Shri Rikman G Momin led a delegation of the Federation of Licensed Exporters of Meghalaya (FeLEMA) to call upon Union Minister for Commerce and Industries Shri Piyush Goyal.

The delegation held an indepth discussion with the Union Minister on various issues that are impeding international border trade between India and Bangladesh through Meghalaya.

The Federation sought the Union Government’s intervention and assistance in easing export related bottlenecks that have cropped up in the state during recent times.

The Union Minister assured the delegates that he would look into the matter and ensure that ease of doing business is maintained and technical glitches coupled with administrative delays don’t lead to loss of revenue for Meghalaya’s exporter community.

The exporters have faced continuous delays in consignment delivery and lack of space. No proper and designated entry and exit points along with abrupt closure of border haats have compounded the problem even farther.

Lack in coordination due to absence of appropriate authority at the LCS is another major cause for concern. All of which were discussed during the course of the meeting.

The Minister has delegated Joint Secretary, Commerce & Industries to initiate a secretary level GOM meeting at the earliest to resolve the long pending issues faced by exporters who can furnish necessary legal permits.
