Shillong, August 09: The Border Security Force, Meghalaya Frontier, successfully concluded the District-Level Volleyball Tournament under the SPANDAN League-2026, an initiative of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), at Indoor Stadium, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, today.
The tournament was organised as part of the BSF Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, with an aim to promote sports, nurture young talent and strengthen engagement with local communities through sporting activities.
The three-day tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from teams across Junior and Senior categories for Boys, Girls, Men and Women, showcasing impressive talent, competitive spirit, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The Closing Ceremony was graced by Shri Sanbor Shullai, Hon’ble Minister of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary and Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya, as the Chief Guest. He was warmly received by Shri Om Prakash Upadhyay, IG, BSF Meghalaya, along with senior BSF officers and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of BSF Meghalaya in organising the tournament and providing a meaningful platform for young sportspersons to showcase their talent. He encouraged the participants to pursue excellence in sports and emphasised that discipline, teamwork, dedication and perseverance are essential for achieving success both on and off the field.
The Chief Guest felicitated the winning teams and outstanding performers during the closing ceremony, recognising their achievements, dedication and sporting excellence. He also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all the teams and lauded the efforts of BSF Meghalaya in successfully conducting the tournament.
Tournament Results in boys Junior Category, 1st – KVS Happy Valley, 2nd – Gorkha Pathshala H.S. School, 3rd – Garo Union School. In the Girls Junior Category, 1st – KSO Shillong, 2nd – KVS Happy Valley, 3rd – Gorkha Pathshala School.
In the Women Senior Category, 1st – KSO Shillong, 2nd – EIMI Women, 3rd – St. Edmund’s College and in the men, Senior Category, 1st – Gorkha Association, 2nd – KSO Shillong, 3rd – St. Edmund’s College.
The tournament provided a vibrant and competitive platform for sportspersons to demonstrate their abilities while fostering the core values of sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, mutual respect and perseverance.
The successful conclusion of the volleyball tournament marks another significant step in BSF Meghalaya’s continued efforts to promote sports and strengthen its engagement with the youth and local communities of Meghalaya.
