Shillong, Nov 05: The latest type of Cyber Crimes being reported in this district are through Face Book where criminals be friend female friends through face book and claim to be in a foreign land.
After having established the friendship they then inform that they will beVisiting India or that they will be sending a parcel of items to the victim. Subsequently, They will inform that they have been detained in the airport or that the parcel has been detained by Customs for which they need urgent money to pay as fine.
The victim is then asked to deposit a certain amount of money into an account of another person in India. It is only after they have deposited the money and after a long wait, the victim then realizes that her face book friend has duped.
All general public are therefore requested to be very cautious from suchSo called friends before becoming victims and being duped or accepting hither request.
The public is also requested to be cautious of people who call up over mobile claiming themselves to SBI personnel and would asked for ATM No. and PIN No. so as to revamp the system. On giving away these Nos. the caller would immediately use the same to buy items online till the balance In the A/C is exhausted. Said the police.(SP News)
