Crime and Criminal Network and System was launched at the Sadar Police Station

Shillong, Jan 14: An online registration of complaints aimed at providing better policing to the citizens known as the Crime and Criminal network and system (CCTNS) was launched at the Sadar Police Station here on Monday.

The CCTNS is a nation wide project and was initiated by the Union Home Ministry with an aimed to provide better policing. In the state of Meghalaya, the project will be implemented across 96 police stations and outposts.

The Union home ministry has sanctioned Rs 2000 crore to implement the project in the 35 states and union territories in the country.

Addressing the gathering at the launching function, Meghalaya director general of police Kulbir Krishan said the programme was one of the most revolutionary concepts aimed at making the police stations citizen-friendly and more transparent by automating their functioning.

“CCTNS aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effective policing at all levels and especially at the police stations level,” he said.

Further, highlighting the project the DGP said that with the implementation of the project, the citizen would gain benefit out of it as they can register and lodge their complaints online without having to go to the police stations adding that the project also provides information for effective criminal investigation, online availability of routine reports pertaining to crime and criminal investigation, creates online monitoring for effective supervision by senior officers.

Meanwhile, it was also informed that police personnel right from officers down to the constable level were provided training to ensure smooth implementation of the project.

He said the project is first being implemented in the four police stations of Sadar, Laban, Tura and Dalu. “Very soon the project will be extended to different police stations and police outposts in the state,” he added
