ULFA cadre arrested, blast averted in Tura

Tura,Aug 19: Meghalaya police today arrested an ULFA cadre Babul Rabha, 18 alias Kancha from Chandmari locality here and averted a major blast in Tura.

He hails from Krishnai in Goalpara district of Assam. On interrogation, he told the police that they had planned to carry out a bomb blast in Tura.

Superintendent of police, West Garo Hills, Mukesh Singh said, “Rabha was to be provided with materials for blast by the GNLA”. Singh also told that Rabha is involved in the recent blast, which took
place in Krishnai.

Another suspected militant Trening M. Sangma, 18 was arrested based on information given out by the ULFA cadre. Sangma hails from Purakhasia village, near Dalu in West Garo Hills. The arrest of two cadres spread like wild fire in Tura with rumours that Tura Super Market will be blown up.

Police sprung into action and did a thorough check. Of the seven entry and exist point, only two were opened for rest of the day. A cadre of ASAK outfit, Sengkham R. Marak, 26 today surrendered at
Dalu police station with a 7.65 pistol and 5 live rounds. He was outfit’s commander of Khasi hills. He is a GNLA deserter from 2011 batch. Police is still interrogating him.(SP News)
