Education Scam – What next for the aggrieved teachers?

Tura, 27th Oct: The ongoing saga of the education scam is now in its 4th year and by the looks it seems set to continue for some more time. The High Court ruling, the findings of the CBI as well as the endorsement to the findings of the CBI by the High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) have been completed but there is no succour for the aggrieved teachers even after all that has passed. Now the aggrieved teachers have decided to appeal once more to the High Court for justice that is long overdue.

The Government has been dragging its feet in the case and have been giving different views on how they would take care of the issue, but the main issue of booking the culprits who have been behind the scam is a long thought, with the Government completely silent. They have released various thoughts about how the teachers who got appointments illegally would be removed and the deserving candidates given the posts. However, the people who have been the illegality possible have not been mentioned at all!

The Dadenggre unit of the Aggrieved and Deprived SET Passed Contractual Appointee Teachers (ADSETPCAT) have decided to meet on the 2nd of November to decide on the future course of action, one of which includes appealing to the High Court for appeasement of their rights. They believe it is long due and the delay is absolutely unnecessary.

Treepon Sangma, the Secretary of the ADSETPCAT said, “The High Court found fault in the appointments, the CBI investigation proved that some characters were at fault and the HLSC endorsed the findings. The HLSC was formed by the MUA II Government itself. So now what do they want to do, form another committee to find if the findings of the HLSC were right? They can form any form of committees but the findings will not change. The Government has to act now and show that it is serious in tackling the issue and booking the guilty. What have we done wrong to be treated this way? We are just asking for what was supposed to be ours in the first place”.

The ADSETPCAT had met the Director of Education last month and submitted a reminder for action on the findings, but the same has still not been worked on. They have decided to approach the High Court once again and ask for justice.

The people of the state are aware that the Government has been dragging its feet on the case as its own ministers would in fact be prosecuted. The general feeling is that half the cabinet would be in the dock if the scam was to be cleared. With the watchdog of the state, the High Court in the background, the question now is how can the MUA Government prolong the agony of the scam before the Court pulls them up and the protests intensify? The general feeling amongst the people is that the Government needs to show it is willing to bell the cat and act decisively.(SP News)
