Police hopeful of submitting charge sheet soon in 86 cases by the month end

Shillong, Dec 02: East Khasi hills police is hopeful that they will soon complete the charge-sheet of 86  cases by the end of this month.

Superintendent of Police East Khasi hills M Kharkhrang said, “We feel probably by end of this month we will complete investigation.”

He also said that this will be put up on fast track mode before the special court constituted by the state government.

The eighty six cases are in connection to the arsons, stone-pelting, murder and other criminal activities that had taken place during the three months long agitations sponsored by the thirteen ngos demanding for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state to contain unabated illegal influx.

Kharkrang said, “We have filed charge sheet for 15 cases by tomorrow we are expecting to file charge sheet in another 15 cases.”

He further added,  “Till today we have registered 86 cases and till date have arrested 71 people.”

He further said, “The leaders of prominent NGOs have been issued summon to appear before the investigating officers because many of the investigating officers would like interrogate them in various cases.”

He added, “ Some of their relatives have received the summon some have not received the summons. But till now none of the leaders who were summoned to appear before investigating officers have appeared. Seven of them, they are basically KSU, FKJGP and HNYF.”

On the failure of the ngos leaders to appear before the IQs Kharkhrang said, “If they (ngos leaders) don’t appear before the IOs, we have enough evidence to proceed with the charge sheet process and would forward the charge sheet to special court for necessary action.”  (SP News)
