Shillong, Dec 13: The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, CentralStatistics Office, Government o[ India, New Delhi in collaboration with theDirectorate of Economics & Statistics, Meghalaya organized a one-day
Rules, 2011 on the 13″ December, 2013 at Shillong Club in which Shri Nand Lal,Deputy Director General, Central Statistics Office was the Chief guest and theresource person in the workshop. Shri. Arne1 Marbaniang, Director, Economics &Statistics, delivered the welcome speech which was attended by the officers of thevarious state government departments involves in the statistical activities in the state.
The main objective of this workshop is to sensitize the officers of the Directorate ofEconomics & Statistics,as wcll as the different Departments responsible for theStatistical related works ,on the various provisions of the Collection of Statistics Act2008 and the ‘corresponding procedural provisions of the Collection of StatisticsRules, 2011 so that the officers entrusted with the work of Administration of Statistical Activities can effectivelf-utilize the Acfor improving the statistical system and &ality of data collected.
The Collection of Statistics Act which was passed by the Parliament, received assent of the President on the 7th January 2009 and the Act has come into force with effect from the 11″ June 2010. The Act will facilitate the collection of statistics on economic, demographic, social, scientific and environmental aspects, and for matters connected therewith. The Act deals in-depth on the Collection of Statistics, Disclosure of Information in certain cases and restrictions of their use, offence and penalties, power in respect of core statistics, etc.. In exercise of the powers conferredby Section 33 of the Collection of Statistical Act 2008, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Govt. of India has framed the Collection of Statistics
Rules 201 1 on the 16″ May 201 1 for coordinated and effective collection of Statisticsin the Country as per proviso laid hown under section 3 of the Collection of Statistics.(SP News)
