Shillong, Dec 19: The despatch ceremony of new recruits from Meghalaya, joining Indian Army was organized by the District Administration in co-operation with Headquarters Recruiting Zone, Shillong today to despatch 97 candidates to various Army Training Centres in the country.
The recruits had participated in the Army Recruitment Rally held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong from 20 July to 28 July 2013. The occasion was graced by Mrs Roshan Warjri, Honorable Home Minister of Meghalaya. Other Ministers in the State Government of Meghalaya, various other civil and military dignitaries, parents and the recruits were present.
The opening address was given by Mr Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District. He asked the recruits to serve the nation and the state well.
This was followed by a speech by Brigadier RV Singh, Deputy Director General Recruiting, Headquarters Recruiting Zone Shillong. He thanked the District Administration and State Government for all the help in the recruitment of soldiers from Meghalaya, especially Mr Sanjay Goyal, DC Eash Khasi Hills District, ADM, and his team. He welcomed the recruits into the Indian Army and asked them to serve the nation honourably.
Mrs Roshan Warjri, Honourable Home Minister, then addressed the gathering and felicitated to all the candidates on their successful enrolment into the Indian Army. There was a photography session with the dignitaries and the recruits, followed by tea. The Home Minister and all dignitaries interacted informally with the candidates and their parents, who were all very happy.
The Home Minister flagged off the convoy carrying the recruits to Assam Regiment Centre and Guwahati Railway Station in the end. The continuous efforts, interaction and co-operation of Recruiting team of Recruiting Office (Headquarters), Shillong lead by Colonel M Chopra, Director Recruiting, Recruiting Office (Headquarters) with the District Administration East Khasi Hills made this event a huge success.
The Army representatives said that such efforts are meant to motivate more youth of Meghalaya to opt for Army as a career. There are large number of vacancies in technical trades like Clerks, Nursing Assistants, Havildar Education, Technical, etc. The merit list for these categories is all India or for all seven NE States. People should study English and Science with Mathematics, and/or Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology upto at least Class 12th. They must also try to get commissioned in the Army. The recruitment in the Army is open, free and transparent. Army provides an opportunity to live honourably and have a life of adventure. By joining the Army individual can serve their country and the state.(SP News)
