Shillong, Jan 26: The CSWO has also actually seen and travelled the roads in Jaintia Hills all along the National Highway and shocked at the condition of the roads which are a death trap to the public. The way the loaded trucks are rocking over these roads, anyone of them could collapse over another passing car or over people passing that way.
The CSWO alleged that no action is ever taken for this rampant corruption of funds and shocking that the Minister PWD is talking about bills for repairs for which no repair work is visible. The supervising person who Okayed such roads should be booked and explanations called for.
Passing the blame from GREF (General Reserved Engineering Force) to NHAI (National highways Authority of India) cannot be accepted and a CBI inquiry should be called for immediately by the state Government, if the state Government is really serious.
The Chief engineer PWD, should visit all the roads in the State and should give a report of the condition of the various roads that are not fit to be called roads, even though in paper it is read as complete, and those responsible for the corruption should be held accountable immediately.
The Government should also issue orders to stop the illegal dumping of coal all along the National Highway which will harm the water bodies in these areas, and cause danger to life of the people who consume the contaminated water in and around these places.
It is also surprising that the MP, MLA’s of the areas or MDC are not raising the issues and it is always the NGO’s who have to take up these issues. When protests are raised then clamp down on NGO’s by Government is there.
A pregnant woman or a seriously injured person would not be able to withstand, travelling in these roads. The CSWO also hopes that the Meghalaya High Court will take sou moto cases of public interests which directly harm Human life, as the corrupt Government will never order an inquiry. People can easily tell it is corruption and the way many in the Government are amassing wealth, yet there is no authority willing to order an inquiry, said the president of the CSWO Smti Agnes Kharshiing.(SP News)
