Shillong, August : The decisive Group E fixture of the 135th IndianOil Durand
Cup 2026 concluded today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, featuring a
highly anticipated matchup between local clubs Shillong Lajong FC and Langsning FC.
Played before a spirited crowd of 11,279 spectators, the match kicked off at 7:00 PM
and served as the final group-stage appearance for both teams in the tournament.
Dignitaries gracing the evening were Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, Minister,
Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya; Smt Ampareen
Lyngdoh, Hon’ble MLA, East Shillong constituency and Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya; Lieutenant General Mohit Wadhwa (Sena Medal), General Officer
Commanding 101 Area; Brigadier Kanwar Jitender Singh from Headquarters 101 Area;
Shri P.B. War Nongbri, Director-in-charge, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs,
Government of Meghalaya alongside senior officials from the Indian Armed Forces and
the Department of Sports, Government of Meghalaya.
Under the Chief Minister Football Mission grant, an initiative dedicated to strengthening Meghalaya’s football ecosystem, Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, Hon’ble Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, alongside Lieutenant General Mohit Wadhwa
officially handed over financial assistan ce to the emerging football clubs Nongkseh
Sports Social & Cultural Club, receiveda cheque for 25 lakh, Langsning Football Club,
were awarded 15 lakh.
This support aims to empower local clubs to nurture young talent and elevate their competitive standing.
Prior to kickoff, the stadium witnessed a special observance of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga
campaign’. Celebrating the spirit of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav the event featured
hoisting of the National Flag, encouraging citizens to proudly display the National Flag
and reaffirming a collective commitment to the ideals of freed om, unity, and dignity.
With this result, Shillong Lajong FC finishes at the top of Group E with 7 points from
three matches, successfully advancing to the quarter finals. Whereas Langsning FC
finishes second in the group with 5 points. Nongkseh SSCC finishes third in Group E
with 4 points.
The 135th IndianOil Durand Cup 2026 now moves to the knockout phase, with Shillong
hosting its first Quarter-Final match on August 17, 2026, at the Jawaharlal Nehru
Stadium.
In a 3-3 draw between Shillong Lajong FC and Langsning FC, João Vitor de Paula
Morais scored first for Lajong in the 26th minute and doubled their lead in the 30th
minute. Langsning mounted a comeback after halftime, with Kyrmenskhem Mukhim
scoring in the 49th minute and Wadajied Kynsai Ryngkhlem equalizing in the 63rd.
Everbrightson Sana Mylliempdah restored Lajong’s lead in the 83rd minute, but Syed
Ahmed headed home in stoppage time (90+1′) to finalize the 3-3 scoreline.
