Maligaon, April 26: Continuing its sustained drive against transportation of contraband substances through railways, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved significant success in curbing ganja trafficking within its jurisdiction.
During intensive checks and operations conducted from 20th to 22nd April, 2026, RPF teams recovered nearly 60 kg of ganja worth over Rs 29 lakh from different railway stations under NFR jurisdiction.
In addition, three persons involved in illegal transportation of ganja were apprehended and handed over to the respective GRP outpost for further necessary action to be undertaken.
On 20th April, 2026, RPF personnel of New Jalpaiguri Railway Station recovered substantial quantities of unclaimed ganja in two separate incidents during routine checking and drives.
In the first case, approximately 18 kg of ganja worth Rs 9 lakh was recovered, while in another similar operation, approximately 13.80 kg ganja valued approximately Rs 6.90 lakh was seized. In both cases, the recovered contraband was subsequently seized and handed over to GRP outpost of New Jalpaiguri for further course of action.
In another major operation on 21st April, 2026, RPF team of Agartala, in coordination with GRP, apprehended two persons at Agartala Railway Station and seized around 21.48 kg ganja worth approximately Rs 10.74 lakh from their possession. The apprehended individuals alongwith the seized ganja were handed over to GRP/Agartala outpost, for further necessary action.
Further continuing the crackdown, on 22nd April, 2026, RPF team of Agartala jointly with GRP apprehended one person at Agartala Railway Station and seized around 6 kg ganja worth approximately Rs 3 lakh. The apprehended person alongwith the contraband item was handed over to GRP/Agartala outpost.
RPF of NFR has been continuously undertaking focused drives, surveillance and intelligence-based operations to prevent misuse of railway premises and trains for trafficking of narcotic substances.
These sustained efforts reflect the commitment of NFR towards ensuring a safe and secure railway environment for its passengers, by curbing illegal activities across its jurisdiction.
