Shillong, May 21: The East Khasi Hills district on Thursday organised “Samridhi Ki Pathshala”, an awareness campaign and field-training programme under the Government of India’s Modernization of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM) scheme of the Ministry of Jal Shakti at Lyngkhoi village under the Sohiong Community and Rural Development Block.
The programme was conducted to educate farmers and Water User Societies (WUS) on the upgradation of agricultural water infrastructure and the benefits of modernising irrigation systems. The awareness campaign brought together agricultural experts, engineers, and local farmers to deliberate on improving irrigation management and water utilisation.
Under the M-CADWM scheme, the Government of India has sanctioned an amount of Rs 3,37,40,325 for the Lyngkhoi Flow Irrigation Project Cluster.
The programme was attended by local MLA Synshar K R Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills R M Kurbah, State Nodal Officer L Sooting, Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Nodal Officer Shanborlang Warjri, Executive Engineer (WRD) and Member Secretary of DLIC M.L. Lawai, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Water Resources Shubham Pachauri, officials from the Central Water Commission Shillong, Mahana Ventures, Block Development Officer, members of Water User Societies and farmers.
The programme witnessed active participation from stakeholders and reflected strong community commitment towards the successful implementation of the irrigation modernisation initiative.
