Shillong, June 06: Saindur Enviro Private Ltd observed World Environment Day 2026 by organizing a plantation drive followed by an environmental awareness programme at Mawtnum Presbyterian Centenary Memorial Secondary School, Mawtnum Village, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Headmaster, Shri Micheal Manner, who welcomed Shri Badhok Nongmalieh, Headman of Mawtnum Village; Dr. Vivek Kumar, Co-founder and Director of Saindur Enviro Pvt. Ltd., Shillong; students; and members of the teaching staff.
In his address, he highlighted the importance of observing World Environment Day and informed the gathering about this year’s international theme, “Climate Action”, with the global call “Now for Climate.”
Welcoming the participants, Shri Badhok Nongmalieh emphasized the importance of environmental protection and community participation in conservation efforts. He urged everyone to work together to protect local streams and rivers, keep their surroundings clean and green, and set an example for others through responsible environmental stewardship.
Addressing the students and teachers, Dr. Vivek Kumar said that the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Climate Action – Now for Climate,” reminds us that the Earth is sending clear warning signs through rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and the loss of biodiversity.
He emphasized that while governments and institutions have important roles to play, meaningful change begins with individual actions. He encouraged students to adopt simple sustainable practices such as conserving energy, reducing plastic use, saving water, using environmentally friendly modes of transport, and planting trees.
He noted that small individual actions, when taken collectively, can make a significant positive impact on the environment and contribute to climate action. Dr. Kumar reminded the students that they are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the changemakers of today, capable of inspiring their families and communities through responsible environmental behaviour.
He called upon everyone to pledge to respect nature, conserve resources, and take meaningful climate action in their daily lives, reminding them that “we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from future generations.”
He also introduced the ‘Tag the Tree’ initiative, under which each sapling planted would be named after the student or group responsible for planting it, encouraging them to nurture and care for the tree as it grows.
The awareness programme was followed by a plantation drive during which fruit-bearing saplings were planted across the school campus by students, teachers, and guests.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Headmaster, who expressed gratitude to all participants and reiterated the importance of collective action in building a cleaner, greener, and more climate-resilient future.
