Mr. Sandeep from Meghalaya wins gold for India at Kettlebell World Championship

Shillong, June 8: Meghalaya’s Sandeep Sharma has brought glory to India by winning the Gold Medal in the 24kg Snatch Half Marathon event at the Kettlebell World Championship 2026, held in Chisinau, Moldova, from June 4 to 7.

Competing in the 74kg to 87kg+ bodyweight category, Sharma delivered a remarkable performance by completing 300 repetitions in 30 minutes, surpassing his previous personal best of 228 repetitions, which he had achieved in Italy last year.

The Kettlebell Snatch Half Marathon is one of the most demanding events in the sport, requiring athletes to perform continuous lifting for 30 minutes without putting the kettlebell down.

The gold medal marks a significant milestone in Sharma’s career, as it is his first-ever World Championship gold and his third medal at the prestigious competition. He previously won bronze medals at the World Championships in Hungary in 2023 and Poland in 2024. In 2025, he narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in Italy.

A total of 27 countries participated in this year’s championship, making Sharma’s achievement a proud moment for both Meghalaya and India on the international stage.
