Elephant depredation at Joyfar village SWGH district one house damage

Ampati, June 14: An incident of elephant depredation was reported at Joyfar village under Betasing C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills at around 11:00 PM on the night of 13 June 2026.

According to reports, a wild elephant severely damaged a kitchen, household utensils, and an attached storeroom belonging to Smt. Ketaki Hajong. The affected household comprises six members, including two adults and four minors.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, and all family members are safe. Authorities have informed that no immediate relief assistance is required at present.

However, the concerned departments are looking into the matter and will assess the extent of the damage to facilitate appropriate action.
