First-ever purple fair for persons with disabilities to be held in Ampati SWGH 

Ampati, June 16: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) [CRCSRE-Shillong], under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, will organize a Purple Fair for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) on 18th June 2026 at MFC Hall, Ampati, South West Garo Hills.

The event is being conducted in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, and the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, South West Garo Hills.

The event holds special significance as it will be the first-ever Purple Fair to be organized in the Garo Hills region of Meghalaya, marking an important milestone in promoting disability inclusion, empowerment, and accessibility.

The Purple Fair aims to create awareness, facilitate access to various services and government schemes, and provide a platform for the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities through inclusive activities and stakeholder engagement.

A key attraction of the fair will be the exhibition stalls, where Persons with Disabilities, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), institutions, and organizations working in the disability sector will showcase and market products, handicrafts, artworks, and other achievements. The initiative seeks to encourage entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and economic empowerment among PwDs.

The event will also feature cultural performances by Persons with Disabilities, including music, dance, and other artistic presentations. These performances will celebrate the talents, creativity, and contributions of PwDs, reinforcing the message of inclusion and equal opportunity.

In addition, the fair will provide a valuable platform for interaction and collaboration among stakeholders engaged in disability welfare and rehabilitation.

Participating organizations and institutions will showcase their services, initiatives, and success stories, fostering greater awareness and networking opportunities.

The programme will be graced by Shri Saleng A. Sangma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, 2-Tura Parliamentary Constituency, as the Chief Guest.

The event will also be attended by Shri Subir Marak, Hon’ble MLA; Shri Sanjay M. Sangma, Hon’ble MLA; Shri Ian Botham K. Sangma, Hon’ble MLA; and Smt. Miani D. Shira, Hon’ble MLA, as Special Guests.

CRCSRE-Shillong has extended a warm invitation to Persons with Disabilities, NGOs, Self-Help Groups, institutions, government departments, and members of the public to participate in the Purple Fair and support the collective effort towards building a more inclusive and accessible society.

The organizers expressed confidence that the Purple Fair will serve as a catalyst for strengthening disability inclusion and empowerment across the Garo Hills region and Meghalaya as a whole.
