Shillong, June 30: The Meghalaya 108 Ambulance Union (MEMRIWU), express their deep sadness and disappointment over the cold-hearted attitude of the Health Minister, regarding their demands to upgrade public emergency that is 108 Emergency services.
The 108-emergency service has been operational for 18 years, yet, the number of active ambulances remains exactly the same as when the service first started. This stagnation threatens the lives of citizens across the state.
A lifeline left untended for nearly two decades, the 108 service has been an immense benefit to lakhs of people during critical medical emergencies, particularly in neglected rural areas.
The public eagerly anticipates, an expanded fleet of 108 vehicles, the recruitment of additional staff, better medical equipment inside the ambulances.
It is deeply disheartening to witness the government’s total indifference toward the Union’s demands to upgrade these essential services.
The demands of the Union to ensure public safety and fair worker treatment, the Union demands immediate action on three fronts.
The Union demand terminate privatization, government should abolish the practice of leasing this service to private companies. These entities operate solely for profit in our state, which directly harms both the employees and the overall quality of emergency care.
The Government should regularise the service by formalise the 108-emergency service framework and regularise the employment of its staff.
The Government should expand the Ambulance Fleet by increasing the number of 108 vehicles immediately across the entire State, said Mr. Roypar Kharraswai  President MEMRIWU 108 in the press statement.
