Meghalaya education minister hands over new Government SS at Jongushen

Amlarem July 07: Meghalaya Minister for Education, Government of Meghalaya, who is also the MLA of the 7 Amlarem Constituency, on Saturday, 4 July 2026, formally handed over the newly established Government Secondary School, constructed under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), to the people of Jongushen Village in Amlarem Sub-Division.

The establishment of the Secondary School marks a significant step towards strengthening educational infrastructure in the region and expanding access to secondary education for local students.

With Government Lower Primary and Upper Primary Schools already functioning in the village, the new Secondary School will enable students to continue their education closer to home, reducing the need to travel to distant institutions while ensuring greater access to quality education.

Addressing the gathering, the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui reaffirmed that education remains one of the Government’s foremost priorities and a powerful means of empowering individuals and fostering social progress.

He stated that the establishment of the new Secondary School reflects the Government’s continued commitment to providing equitable and quality education, particularly for children living in rural and remote areas.

The Minister encouraged students to make the most of the opportunities provided by the new institution by pursuing their studies with dedication, discipline, and determination.

He also urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to work collectively in creating a nurturing environment that promotes academic excellence, character building, and responsible citizenship.

Highlighting the pivotal role of teachers in nation-building, the Minister called upon them to continue discharging their responsibilities with sincerity, professionalism, and commitment in shaping the future of young learners.

He further observed that the long-term success of any educational institution depends not only on the efforts of educators but also on the active support and participation of the entire community.

Expressing his appreciation to the village leaders, community members, and all those who contributed to the establishment of the school, the Minister described the institution as a beacon of hope and opportunity for future generations.

He expressed confidence that the school would make a meaningful contribution to improving educational outcomes while nurturing the talents, aspirations, and potential of students from Jongushen and the neighbouring villages.

The handing-over programme was attended by the Headman, Village Secretary, members of the Village Education Committee, community leaders, parents, teachers, students, and other invited guests.

The programme concluded with the formal transfer of the school to the community, with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to working together to ensure the sustained growth and success of the institution for the benefit of present and future generations.
