The Dept of fisheries organises activities ahead of National Fish Farmers Day

Ampati, July 10: In the run-up to the observance of National Fish Farmers Day 2026, the Department of Fisheries organised a series of pre-event activities across the district to promote sustainable aquaculture and strengthen the livelihoods of fish farmers.

As part of the programme, fishery inputs were distributed to eligible beneficiaries to support fish production and improve aquaculture practices. Work orders were also issued to selected beneficiaries under various fisheries development schemes, enabling them to undertake fish farming activities with government assistance.

The Department further conducted awareness campaigns focusing on scientific aquaculture practices, sustainable fisheries development and the various government schemes available to support fish farmers.

Officials highlighted the importance of adopting improved fish farming techniques, efficient pond management, quality seed stocking, balanced feeding practices and disease prevention measures to enhance productivity and ensure long-term sustainability.

The awareness sessions also encouraged farmers to avail themselves of government initiatives aimed at increasing fish production, improving rural livelihoods and promoting self-reliance in the fisheries sector.

The Department of Fisheries reaffirmed its commitment to supporting fish farmers through capacity-building initiatives, technical guidance and timely implementation of development programmes, while urging farmers to adopt modern and sustainable aquaculture practices for enhanced income and nutritional security.
