Guwahati, July 11: The B. Borooah College (Autonomous), one of Assam’s premier higher education institutions, is set to launch the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the 2026–27 academic session.
The programme will enable students to earn an undergraduate degree and a teacher education qualification through a single integrated course.
The programme will be conducted in partnership with Government Banikanta College of Teacher Education as part of the institution’s response to national reforms in teacher education.
Students will be able to pursue either a B.A. B.Ed. or B.Sc. B.Ed. dual degree under the programme. The integrated structure will allow them to complete both qualifications concurrently within four years, saving one full academic year compared with pursuing an undergraduate degree and a B.Ed. separately.
Graduates of the programme will be qualified to pursue teaching opportunities at the higher secondary level. They will also retain eligibility to enrol in conventional postgraduate programmes such as M.A. or M.Sc. in their respective disciplines.
The programme is designed to provide students with a combination of subject knowledge, pedagogical training, classroom exposure and professional preparation for a career in education.
To support students joining the specialised programme, B. Borooah College has made provisions for separate residential hostels for boys and girls.
The facilities are expected to benefit students from different parts of Assam and other Northeast states, as well as West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and elsewhere in the country.
Interested candidates can apply for admission to the programme through the official Assam Samarth Admission Portal (https://assamadmitep.samarth.ac.in/index.php) for the 2026-27 academic session.
Located in central Guwahati, the college is well connected through major transport networks. Guwahati Railway Station is approximately one kilometre from the campus, while the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is around 10 kilometres away.
Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is approximately 23 kilometres from the college, making the institution accessible to students travelling from different parts of the country.
The launch of the ITEP coincides with B. Borooah College (https://www.bborooahcollege.ac.in/) completing 83 years of academic excellence.
The autonomous institution has secured an A++ grade with a cumulative grade point average of 3.62 from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, the highest accreditation score achieved by a government-sector higher education institution in Northeast India.
