Resubelpara, July 20: : The Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills District, Resubelpara, has informed that an unidentified and unclaimed body of a newborn baby girl was recovered from the Rongdal River near Rangsa village under Kharkutta Police Station on July 15, 2026.
According to the police, villagers from Rangsa spotted the body of the newborn floating in the river at around 9:00 A.M. and immediately informed Kharkutta Police Station. Police personnel subsequently recovered the body from the river.
The body was sent to the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), North Garo Hills, for a post-mortem examination. Following the post-mortem examination, it was preserved in the mortuary of Mendipathar Community Health Centre (CHC) for identification.
Despite efforts by the police, the identities of the deceased newborn girl and her biological parents remain unknown.
The case has been registered at the Women Police Station, North Garo Hills, Mendipathar, as Case No. 10/2026 under Sections 91 and 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
