Shillong, August 13: As India advances its transition towards a low-carbon economy, sustainable manufacturing has become central to the future of industrial development. Reinforcing this vision, Shree Cement Limited is bringing its sustainability-led manufacturing approach to Meghalaya through its upcoming integrated cement manufacturing project in East Jaintia Hills.
The project will reflect the Company’s focus on clean energy, resource efficiency and responsible environmental practices that have made Shree Cement one of India’s leading sustainable cement manufacturers.
Sustainability is embedded in Shree Cement’s growth strategy and guides every stage of its manufacturing operations. Guided by its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments and RE100 pledge to achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2050, the Company continues to invest in renewable energy, Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS), alternative fuels, energy-efficient technologies and circular manufacturing practices to steadily reduce its environmental footprint.
Today, Shree Cement meets over 62% of its electricity requirements through renewable energy and WHRS, supported by an installed green power capacity of 634.5 MW. During FY 2025-26, these initiatives helped avoid approximately 7.3 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions, demonstrating the Company’s continued progress towards low-carbon manufacturing.
The upcoming Meghalaya project will build on these established sustainability practices from its inception. Designed with a strong focus on energy efficiency and responsible resource utilisation, the facility will incorporate proven technologies adopted across Shree Cement’s operations while supporting the state’s industrial and infrastructure development.
Beyond renewable energy, Shree Cement continues to advance circular manufacturing by increasing the use of alternative fuels and alternative raw materials, reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels and conserving natural resources.
The Company is also strengthening its clean energy transition through Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) pilot projects, aimed at improving renewable energy utilisation and enhancing grid reliability.
