Ampati , August 22: An unidentified female dead body, estimated to be around 60–70 years of age, was recovered from the muddy waters of a stream at Kukurmua under Mahendraganj Police Station, South West Garo Hills on August 21, 2026.
On receiving information from the public, a police team led by WPSI A. A. Marak, accompanied by UBSI E. R. Marak and staff, proceeded to the spot. The Crime Scene Unit and Forensic Team also attended the site and carried out the necessary examination. An inquest was conducted in the presence of the forensic team and local witnesses.
A nighty suspected to belong to the deceased and a pair of ladies’ slippers were found near the site. Water samples were also preserved for forensic examination. Despite enquiries in the surrounding area, the identity of the deceased could not be established.
The body was sent to Ampati for post-mortem examination and is presently kept at the DM&HO, Ampati Morgue. Police have continued efforts to establish the identity of the deceased, but no person has so far come forward to claim the body.
The deceased is described as a female aged approximately 60–70 years, about 5 feet tall, with a swarthy/dark complexion, oval face, long black and grey hair and medium build. Her address and identity remain unknown.
Anyone having information that may help establish the identity of the deceased is requested to contact Mahendraganj Police Station, South West Garo Hills, at the earliest. The matter has been entered vide Mahendraganj PS GDE No. 03 dated August 21, 2026.
