Ampati, Oct 02: In a bid to promote cleanliness and civic responsibility, 51 Scouts and Guides of St. Anne’s Secondary School, Ampati, took part in a cleanliness drive at Garagri Weekly Market near the Indo-Bangladesh border, close to the Kalaichar area, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Friday.
The drive saw the participation of 24 Scouts, 27 Guides and their Unit Leader, who joined hands to clean the market premises, remove accumulated waste and clear the surrounding areas to improve sanitation and hygiene.
The initiative also aimed to sensitise local residents, shopkeepers and visitors to the importance of maintaining clean public spaces, proper waste disposal and collective responsibility for a healthy environment.
The programme served as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, particularly his emphasis on cleanliness, discipline and community participation. The active involvement of the young participants reflected the spirit of teamwork, social responsibility and service that lies at the heart of the Scouts and Guides movement.
The initiative reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to community service and encouraging young people to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of their local communities.
