Shri Sanjeev inaugurated the Command Centre to track foodgrain vehicles

Shillong, Oct 8: Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, Sanjeev Chopra, IAS, on Thursday inaugurated a Command and Control Centre at the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs office in Shillong to monitor the movement of vehicles transporting foodgrains.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Chopra said the system would enable authorities to track vehicles carrying foodgrains from depots to Fair Price Shops through GPS devices installed in the vehicles or through the mobile phones of drivers.

The Command and Control Centre will allow officials to monitor the movement of vehicles in real time and verify whether consignments have reached their designated destinations.

Chopra said the initiative would also help address complaints of vehicles failing to reach Fair Price Shops, as well as cases of possible diversion and other irregularities. In such instances, authorities would be able to immediately locate and track the concerned vehicles and take necessary action.

Commissioner and Secretary Pravin Bakshi, IAS, Director I. Mawlong and other officials were also present at the inauguration.
