Shillong, June 24: The instances of Cybercrime seems to have no ending, Although police have repeatedly appealed public not to fell prey to such offers, the crime continues to happen.
Two people in Meghalaya were duped by their facebook friends. Such cases where friends from social media cheats people has become a common occurrences in the state.
In one such instance, one person was duped of over Rs 2 lakh by a facebook friend, Ginna Sangma of Dakopgre, Tura (WGH) lodged a complaint at Tura PS that one Frank Alex informed her through Facebook, that he will send her valuable parcel and asked her to deposit money in the given account numbers.
In this connection, the complainant deposited Rs. 2,29,500/- in four different accounts on January 3, 10, March 31, April 23 and May 25th. However, till date she did not receive the parcel.
Similar case was also reported in shillong where a lady was duped of over Rs 12 Lakh by a Facebook friend.
Lalnamiglaki Mami Rynjah lodged a complaint at Laitumkhrah PS that since the month of March 2014, one Eric Dini of UK and one Da Ali Welson of Malki, Shillong promised her niece through Facebook to start a business with her in India and asked her to deposit Rs. 20 lakhs.
Later, she deposited Rs. 12,97,000/- in different accounts and till date she did not receive any response from them. Luring offers often compels people to go for such deals. (SP News)
