Shillong, May 03: On 2nd May,2016, the First VDP Rally was held of Dangar Circle at Dangar Community Hall for all villages falling under Dangar Outpost. It was attended by Headmen, Secretaries and VDP members. Shri I.O Swer, MPS, SDPO, Sohra gave a detailed insight into the Meghalaya Village Defence Organisation Act and the rules and regulations governing VDPs. Shri M. Kharkrang,IPS, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong in his presentation dwelt on the need for a close cooperation between public and police through VDPs.
He also spoke at length on Crime Against Women, the need to get Migrant Workers Registered with police and educated the people on false allegation of witch hunting which has led to the death of many innocent people. Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong took a commitment from the villagers that by the end of 2016, each village should have a registered VDP.
