Shillong, April 06: The Combine opposition Meghalaya People Front (MPF) in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in the meeting today decided not to contest the Rajya Sabha By-Election due on the 18th of this month.
The Spoke Person of the MPF, Mr Pasul Lyngdoh said after taking in consideration from various ankle the have come to the conclusion that they will not set candidate for this time but they will prepare for the general election to the Lok Sabha due in the coming year 2014.
Coming to the election to the Deputy Speaker post in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly which is still laying vacant Mr Paul Said that they will not set yp candidate since they do not have the required numbers.
Coming to the recognition of the Leaders of the opposition, they have decided to go as a delegation to meet the speaker Mr AT Mandal to asked him to recognized the MPF as the official opposition on the floor of the house and Dr Donkupar Roy as their leaders.
The Speaker insist that their should be a required numbers of MLA,s one tem of the total strength of the house, but there are insistences in the past that when there is only one six of the members the Speaker has recognized the opposition leaders when Admirasl K Sangma was the leaders of the opposition.
