Shillong, May 22: Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited has to pay to the Special Purpose Vehicles Committee (SPVC) a sum of Rs 90 per tone of lime stone as an extra amount for the purpose of taking out developmental activities in the area where the mining is taken place.
To implement the development work activities out of the money that the state government received from the company the state government has set up the Special Purpose Vehicles Society.
Speaking to SP News Agency the Society the secretary said that they have received the money from the committee a sum of Rs 18.61 core in order to implements the various scheme that applied by the people from the area.
The various scheme that the SPVS taken up in the first phase are, 1000 sanitary latrine and water supply at Nongtrai Village at the cost of Rs.5.94 cores on Education for construction of school building Rs.2.33 cores, on agriculture and allied activities Rs.5.22 cores.
The numbers of villages as per the ruling of the supreme court should be 52 villages but at present only seven villages got scantion, Nongtrai, Shella, Mustoh, Nongwar, Laitkynsew, and Nonglait.(SP News)
