Tura Adventure Club(TAC) organised a plantation drive at Jengjal which is 30kms from Tura, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya. The Club started planting Saplings from June 5th on World Environment Day and did plantations throughout the month in various locations.
More than 1500 Saplings were planted by TAC in the month of June. As a concluding Plantation drive they planted 400 + sapling at the Tura Shillong Highway along with other clubs.
The National Highway where the plantation was done connects Tura to Shillong via Nongstoin in Meghalaya, when the construction of the NH was done the DPR didn’t have provisions for roadside plantations.
The drive was initiated by TAC along with PWD (R) Western Zone and Social Forestry Tura. Other clubs like Tura Motor Sports Club(TMSC), Tura Runners Club(TRC) & NH-51 R.E.B.E.L.S Club joined the plantation Drive.
The Programme started at around 9am with the club member gathering at Bolbokgre LP school in Jengjal where the Pwd Additional Chief Engineer Gromyko K. Marak and Madam Jejebeld Arengh of Beat Range officer, Social forestry, Tura spoke few words on environmental benefits of tree plantations and correct ways of planting saplings.
