CSWO will file an FIR against thus who intimidating and tampering with evidence on rape

Shillong, August 20: The Civil Society Women Organization (CSWO) today has expressed its shock that the OC of the Women’s cell O Tyngkan of Jowai had commented to the mother of a minor victim girl of a recent rape case that “she should be happy that her daughter was not raped.”

CSWO said that the mother time and again stressed for the medical report, as it reflected in the medical report given by the doctor which was also not in the prescribed form that there were no signs consistent with recent forceful intercourse.

“This police officer being a woman should have considered the FIR and the version of the girl and not on what the medical states,” The CSWO statement said.

“This is a clear insinuation from the part of this Police SI O Tyngkan , that there was no rape and it is outrageous that the very police who should be giving hope and assurance to the victim and her family is instead trying to help the accused get away with such statements. The victim had clearly stated that she was raped,” the CSWO statement, signed by its president Agnes Kharshiing said.

“This is not the first time that O Tyngkan has interfered and in an earlier case she had also asked the victims to burn the clothes. Even in spite of a complaint she was instead given such a post which requires a police officer who is sensitive and does justice to such cases,” the statement said.

“It is also strange that the doctor at the Jowai Civil Hospital, Dr D. Lakiang had categorically mentioned in a report to the Police officer of Phramer Traffic Cell, West Jaintia Hills District, that the age of the minor girl was 18 years when the girl is only 14 years of age and the report also stated that no sperm was detected in the swab,” stated the CSWO president.

“Many cases are lying pending with frivolous excuses of FSL pending for years and here we have a case where within 48 hours of the occurrence of rape the doctor gives an FSL report trying to help the accused,” stated the CSWO president.

The CSWO has contacted the CWC Jowai which is very active in trying to help in such cases and the chairperson of CWC Jowai has assured to get a second opinion on the determination of age of the victim girl.

Cautioning any police or doctor who tries to tamper, intimidate or provides false reports on rape cases especially of minor, the CSWO has warned that it will file an FIR against them for intimidating and tampering with evidence.

The CSWO demands that O Tyngkan be removed from that post immediately or will bring out a rally.(SP News)
