Shillong Sept 19: EmergE 2013 – Envision, Engage, Evolve , the annual Entrepreneurship Summit of Indian Institute of Management, Shillong concluded today after a week of exciting and varied events that engaged the students of the institute.
In his inaugural address Director of IIM Shillong, Dr Amitabha De stressed on the importance of grooming an individual to be a job creator rather than being content as a job seeker.
The event included programs like conclave on the “Social Entrepreneurships” with speakers like Arun Krishnamurthy, Founder-Environmentalist Foundation of India, Parag Mankeekar, Founder-Director Neeti Solutions and A. Muruganantham, Founder-Jayashree Industries all of whom are leading entrepreneurs in their respective domains.
The inaugural edition of INCUBATOR, the annual entrepreneurship magazine of IIM Shillong was launched and a panel discussion on the “Inability of the people in understanding the challenges of economic development and sustainable environment,” was held.
The panel discussion stressed on the need for entrepreneurs who can garner public interest and contribute towards sustainable economic development. The speakers impressed upon the audience to learn the art of ‘achieving’ rather than ‘surviving’.
An inter B-school Case Study Competition was also conducted in association with POLARIS as part of EmergE 2013 in which the team from IIM Shillong emerged as the winners while the team from NMIMS secured the runners up position.
An e-commerce conclave was held with the participation of three experts in e-commerce, Anaggh Desai – Advisor, Retailers’ Association of India, Rubia Braun – CIO, Metro Brava and Parikshit Borkotoky – Founder, Kraftinn. The discussion analyzed various logistics problems in e-commerce and possible ways to deal with them.
The panel unanimously decided that e-commerce is the way forward but it must overcome the present hurdles and come up with innovative solutions in order to grow and tap the huge market potential in India.
An expert talk by Dr. Parag Mankeekar held during the week focused on how a certain incident or event can change the course of one’s life. He spoke about the importance of disaster management in a country like India with its huge population.
EmergE 2013 came a close with a series of entertaining performances by the students, bringing the perfect finish to the action packed weekend. State Bank of India was the Title Sponsor and the summit was co-sponsored by Central Bank of India and The Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd. and POLARIS was the Event Sponsor for REVEAL, the case study competition.
