Shillong, Sept 26: Defending champions Langsning were made to sweat but carved out a 2-0 victory over bottom side Mylliem in the Shillong Premier League 2026 at the SSA Stadium here today.
Wallambok Dkhar (77’) scored first and Samuel L Kynshi (90’+2) closed it out to take Langsning back to the top of the table, now with 16 points. That dropped Shillong Lajong (14 points) to second, both teams having played seven games.
Mylliem continue to occupy the last position with 1 solitary point (also from seven matches) to show for their season and their place in the SPL hangs by a thread as relegation is a very real possibility now.
Both goals required help from Mylliem, no more so than the second, when a Samuel shot from outside the box went low towards goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh and straight through his hands.
The first goal was scored via a corner kick that Langsning never should have had in the first place. Rajat Peter Lyngdoh, making his first start of the season, needlessly tried to hook a stray ball out of the box even though Rihok had called for it.
The defender miscued the clearance and the ball went out for a corner. Samuel took this and Wallambok did the rest, leaping high to head the ball in.
There were some chances to come Mylliem’s way over the course of the 90 minutes. Remark Kharmalki struck a free-kick just a little too high on the hour and the ball landed on the roof of the net.
A few minutes later, Caldolan Kharmawphlang and Istarbor Marngar produced some nice one-touch passing but the ball crept out of touch before Caldolan could get to it. Istarbor later sent a shot far into the gallery from close range.
At the other end, Kyrmenskhem Mukhim and Syed Ahmed looked dangerous for Langsning without being able to score. Mebanshngain Kurkalang also had a couple of openings in the second half but could not convert, his closest effort being a shot on the run in the 83rd minute that went into the outside of the net.
It was not the most convincing of victories but Langsning will take it. They have now won four of their last five fixtures and this was their third straight game without conceding.
Victory was also much needed as the two games they have left to play will be against sterling opposition – Lajong on 1 October and Nongkseh on 10 October.
On Monday sixth-placed Sawmer will face fourth-placed Nongkseh at 3pm. Just one point separates these two but Nongkseh will start as firm favourites.
