Shillong, Sept 26: The General public is hereby informed that use of vehicles should be in compliance with provisions Of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (as amended), the Central Motor Vehicles Rules and other applicable laws.
The Police advised to display only RTO-approved High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) as per rules on modified fancy registration number plates are not. TO refrain from use of modified exhaust Systems, loud silencers and pressure horns causing considerable public nuisance and noise.
To refrain from unauthorized vehicle modifications altering vehicle structures and prescribed dimensions of width, length and height, particularly seen in vehicles, that contravenes section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Rule 93 Of the CentralMotor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Other violations include excessive window tinting beyond permissible visibility limits, fitting of high-intensity or unauthorized lighting systems and use of oversized wheels, tyres projecting outside the body of the vehicle which are strictly prohibited.
To refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicating substances which are in violation of road safety rules and the leading causes of road tramc accidents.
Strict action will be taken against persons if found driving in a dangerous and negligent manner and violating other traffic regulations. Vehicle owners/drivers shall ensure that valid vehicle documents are made available and produce for inspection whenever required.
These includes, as applicable: Valid Driving License; Registration Certificate (RC); Valid Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy; Fitness Certificate and Permit and valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate.
The public are hereby informed that extensive vehicle checking will commence from the 10th October, 2026 onwards to ensure effective enforcements of traffic rules safety.
Violators will be strictly with fines, seizures of vehicles, cancellation and suspensions of applicable documents & licenses and other legal proceedings as the law permits. Vehicle owners and drivers are therefore requested to follow the traffic rules and regulations.
