Infrastructure-push in Assam budget to accelerate development in industries: Taj Cement

Guwahati, March 11: The Assam Budget 2025-26, presented by state Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Monday, sets a bold course for economic growth, employment generation, and industrial expansion. Neog on Monday unveiled a range of transformative initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth, generating employment, and promoting inclusivity.

Commending Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and state Finance Minister Ajanta Neog for presenting a bold and forward-thinking budget that prioritizes economic expansion, industrialization, and infrastructure development, Taj Cement on Monday said that the budget lays the foundation for a new era of growth and industrial transformation in the state.

“The 250% increase in budgetary expenditure over the past decade, from Rs 66,142 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 1,43,891 crore in 2024-25, is truly remarkable. Additionally, the massive jump in capital expenditure from Rs 2,951 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 24,964 crore in 2024-25 reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to building world-class infrastructure and a thriving business environment,” Group CFO at Taj Cement said.

The official said that the Rs 2,000 crore allocation for industrial transformation is a groundbreaking initiative. The establishment of new industrial parks in Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Silchar, Jagiroad, Palashbari, Tezpur, and Nalbari, along with township projects in Jagiroad and Palashbari (with ADB assistance), will attract investments, generate employment, and accelerate industrialization. The creation of industrial land banks across Assam further enhances the state’s business-friendly ecosystem.

“The exemption of professional tax for those earning up to Rs 15,000 per month is another welcome move, increasing disposable income and strengthening consumer purchasing power – an essential factor for sustained economic growth,” the Taj Cement official added.

The significant investments in infrastructure, such as the Rs 675 crore for the Nehru Stadium FIFA Centre, Rs 108 crore for a new sports stadium, and Rs 200 crore for new government buildings, will drive construction sector growth and enhance Assam’s overall economic landscape.

“Overall, the Assam Budget 2025-26 is a pro-industry, pro-infrastructure, and pro-development budget, positioning the state as a rising economic powerhouse. We, in the business community, appreciate this forward-looking approach and remain committed to contributing to Assam’s industrial and economic growth,” the official added.
