Ampati, August 01: South West Garo Hills athlete Shri Pormeet Hajong has etched his name in Meghalaya’s sporting history by becoming the first athlete from the state to participate in a HYROX race, one of the world’s fastest-growing global fitness competitions that combines endurance running with functional strength challenges. He is the son of Shri. Bimal Hajong and a resident of Billdoba, Mahendraganj, South West Garo Hills.
HYROX is a standardized indoor fitness race held across the world in which competitors complete 8 kilometres of running interspersed with eight functional workout stations, making it a true test of endurance, strength, stamina and mental resilience. The race follows the same format globally, ensuring athletes compete under identical conditions regardless of location.
The competition consists of a 1-kilometre run followed by one workout station, repeated eight times. The workout stations include a 1,000-metre SkiErg, 50-metre Sled Push, 50-metre Sled Pull, 80-metre Burpee Broad Jumps, 1,000-metre Row, 200-metre Farmer’s Carry, 100-metre Sandbag Lunges, and 100 Wall Balls.
HYROX features three race categories—Singles (Open and Pro), Doubles, and Relay. While Singles competitors complete the entire race individually, Doubles teams share the workout stations, and Relay teams of four divide both the running and functional exercises.
Pormeet Hajong’s participation marks a significant milestone for Meghalaya’s fitness and endurance sports community. His achievement is expected to inspire aspiring athletes across the state to explore competitive functional fitness and represent Meghalaya on national and international platforms.
His successful HYROX debut reflects the growing interest in endurance-based fitness competitions in the region and showcases the determination and commitment of Meghalaya’s athletes to compete on the global stage.
