Shillong, Feb 28: Meghalaya Governor, Shri Satya Pal Malik today visited the Tibetan Buddhist Monastery, Upper Lumparing, Shillong. The Governor was welcomed by the Tibetan Settlement Officer, Shri. Pema Dhondup and MP, Tibetan Parliament in exile, Smti. Tsering Dolma among others.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Satya Pal Malik said that it was an honour to visit the monastery; he also mentioned that the Dalai Lama had visited the same monastery in the year 2014 and at the time advised the monastery to establish a Cultural Learning Centre.
He further informed that the objective of such a cultural Centre is to impart the ancient Nalanda tradition of warm heartedness, compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, contentment, self-discipline and ahimsa.
He hoped that the centre will benefit everyone who is interested in learning the psychology and scientific aspect of Nalanda tradition in order to create a compassionate and peaceful society.
The Governor also lauded the Tibetan community for their humanitarian work such as distributing rations to the vulnerable and needy people and also in contributing to the Chief Minister’s fund during the unprecedented times of the Covid pandemic. During the day, cultural shows were also presented by the students of the Tibetan community.
