Ampati, Sept 11: Relief assistance was provided to an elephant depredation-affected beneficiary at Murikhati village in South West Garo Hills following damage caused by wild elephants in the early hours of September 10, 2026.
The incident occurred at around 12:30 AM, when an elephant damaged the residential structures of Khetish Hajong and Obharani Hajong. Khetish Hajong’s kitchen and storehouse were severely damaged, while the kitchen of Obharani Hajong was also severely damaged.
Following the incident, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), South West Garo Hills, coordinated the relief response and provided assistance to the affected beneficiary. Groceries (G/R) were distributed to Khetish Hajong as part of the immediate relief measures.
The district administration also coordinated the collection and verification of the necessary details of the affected families to facilitate further assistance, wherever required.
The relief response was undertaken as part of the district administration’s commitment to provide timely assistance to communities affected by incidents of human-wildlife conflict.
