Shillong, July 27: As sustainable development reshapes the future of Indian industry, Shree Cement Limited is aligning its expansion in Meghalaya with a firm commitment to low-carbon, resource-efficient green growth. As the Company progresses with its upcoming integrated cement manufacturing project in the East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, it is set to deploy state-of-the-art sustainable manufacturing practices and robust water stewardship across the region.
At Shree Cement, green growth and responsible industrialization are fundamental pillars of operations. The Company has built an industry-leading water management framework that combines efficient consumption, heavy-capacity rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and complete wastewater recycling. Through these sustained efforts nationwide, Shree Cement has achieved an impressive 8x water-positive status, replenishing significantly more water than its operations consume.
As part of its Meghalaya green growth roadmap, Shree Cement will adopt a comprehensive approach to water stewardship and resource efficiency at its upcoming integrated project in East Jaintia Hills. The project will follow the Company’s 100% Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) model, ensuring that industrial wastewater is treated and reused within the facility for processes such as cooling, dust suppression and greenbelt development, thereby minimizing freshwater abstraction.
Resource efficiency will be integrated into the project from the outset, with energy-efficient technologies and sustainable resource management practices supporting circular economy principles. Beyond its operations, Shree Cement also remains focused on strengthening water resilience in neighbouring communities through conservation and replenishment initiatives.

This approach builds on the Company’s ongoing partnership with the Government of Rajasthan under the Mukhyamantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan (MJSA), where it is undertaking watershed development and groundwater recharge initiatives around its Ras and Beawar units, reflecting a model of community-centric water stewardship that the Company aims to carry across its operating footprints.
