Shillong Sept 27: The Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Martin Luther Christian University today joined hands with the rest of the world in celebrating World Tourism Day by organising a street campaign among the taxi drivers in Shillong. The campaign was used to spread awareness about the principles of delivering hospitality service to tourists/passengers.
The campaign was held during the rush hour in the morning by distributing pamphlets to taxi drivers at various traffic junctions in town. The locations included Fire Brigade; Motphran, Mawkhar; Khyndailad, Police Bazar; Thangkhiew Petrol Pump, Mawlai; Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah
The Head of the Department, Ms P Kharlukhi informed that the pamphlets distributed by the students included contents on Care and Safety, Service and Hospitality, Sustainability and Cleanliness. She added that the department believed that observing and following these principles are essential in tourism operations.
The main objectives of this campaign is to help to deliver better travel experience for passengers/guests/tourists, to re-enforce the message of excellence in standard and quality in performance and lastly to help drivers observe and improve cleanliness and environmental sustainability in the transport operation.
